Student Life Means Student Success

The Division of Student Life provides an ecosystem where students engage in high-impact practices and experiential learning. Through our departments, we intentionally design meaningful co-curricular experiences that support life-enriching learning objectives, strengthening interpersonal and practical competence, decision-making, and teamwork. These experiences go beyond the classroom, preparing students to navigate real-world challenges with confidence.

Showcasing the impact of these efforts are the stories of our students. From , a Student Center Supervisor who grew from a first-year student into a confident leader, making an impact on others.

To , President of the Student RecWell Council, who found community, built lasting friendships, and promoted wellness through fitness.

journey as a former SAS Testing Assistant highlights how on-campus employment can become much more than a job, helping students build connections and confidence that shape their future careers. Today, she works as a clinical mental health counselor.

Madison鈥檚 experience as a resident advisor in University Housing demonstrates how student leadership roles build strong connections while developing skills in communication, conflict management, and problem-solving, preparing students for success beyond graduation.

These stories reflect a larger, intentional approach to student development. As Cesquinn M. Curtis, associate vice president for the Division of Student Life, explains, 鈥淲e foster these unique journeys through a tiered approach of embedded, co-curricular and extra-curricular experiences,鈥 creating a pathway from early involvement to advanced, work-integrated learning opportunities.

To further support this growth, the division uses the Flashes GROW framework to help students connect their daily work to long-term skills. As Curtis notes, it helps students see that 鈥渆mployability is a multi-dimensional, lifelong and life-wide phenomenon.鈥

This work is grounded in impact. 鈥淥ur support is intentionally designed to meet students exactly where they are,鈥 Curtis said, emphasizing that meaningful engagement contributes to persistence, retention and overall academic success, while preparing students to become resilient leaders.
