Welcome to Flash Focus! In this series, we introduce you to fascinating student Flashes from all walks of life.
Meet Hannah Fletcher, a senior history major and anthropology minor, from Ravenna, Ohio. She enjoys challenging environments and learning new things from herself and others.
Aside from working at a local restaurant in Ravenna, Fletcher also works at the May 4 Visitors Center. Balancing two jobs and being a full-time student has strengthened her time management skills and her ability to connect positively with the public.
Her work at the visitor center combines her passion for history with her love of sharing it with people.
鈥淚 love being able to educate groups that come in, whether it be a Flashes 101 tour group or a school field trip, on the history of not just the era, but also of the history of our campus,鈥 Fletcher told 国产伦理 Today.
Fletcher credits Elaine Frantz (Parsons), Ph.D., professor in the history department, for making a lasting impact during her time at 国产伦理.
鈥淪he challenged me to think in ways that I hadn't before, and to question my conclusions, but also helped me develop my historical interests and niche,鈥 she said. 鈥淚 have taken what I learned from her class and applied it to my daily life in various ways since.鈥
Fletcher鈥檚 most memorable class with Frantz was History of Terrorism in the United States. Throughout this class, students developed a definition and then challenged it.
鈥淭hrough doing this activity and discussing it with my peers, I found what really interested me in history and that sometimes the process of doing research work isn't linear,鈥 she said.
Outside of academics and work, Fletcher enjoys spending time with her nieces and nephew, cherishing the opportunity to watch them grow. She also appreciates exploring nearby nature areas with friends.
As she looks back on her time at 国产伦理, Fletcher emphasizes growth over perfection.
鈥淭o fellow Flashes, I would advise that sometimes, the progress you have made, no matter how little it feels, can be more fruitful than the end result,鈥 she said.
