Loan Limits

NEW for 2627: As a result of the One Big Beautiful Bill Act, some aggregate and lifetime loan limits have changed. Because the federal rulemaking process is ongoing, details will continue to evolve, and this website will be updated with new information and FAQs and examples as more information is available. This page will also be updated once additional information is available and is subject to change.

Direct Unsubsidized Loan limits changed

Graduate student Direct Unsubsidized Loan annual limit unchanged ($20,500); new aggregate limit of $100,000 (not including undergraduate loans). The previous aggregate limit was $138,500, including undergraduate loans.
New professional student Direct Unsubsidized annual limit of $50,000; new aggregate limit of $200,000. At �� this applies to Podiatric Medicine & Doctoral Degre in Clinical Psychology only.
Additional Direct Unsubsidized Loan limits for certain health professions programs have been eliminated. This applies to College of Podiatric Medicine students only.

New lifetime maximum of $257,500 for all federal student loans combined, excluding Parent PLUS Loans.
